—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
NEW YORK, NY (March 7, 2017) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), a grassroots organization of American Muslims, expresses concerns about the newly signed Executive order by President Trump, banning travel from 6 majority Muslim countries.
This comes six weeks after an initial ban was struck down by the courts for being unconstitutional due to being discriminatory against one faith group.
ICNA’s President Javaid Siddiqi said “discriminating against people due to their national origin goes against everything America stands for. Each case should be considered on its own merits on an individual basis”.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees and International Organization for Migration “express the strong belief that refugees should receive equal treatment for protection and assistance, and opportunities for resettlement, regardless of their religion, nationality or race.”
ICNA hopes that the current administration reviews its stance of closing of our borders particularly to the most vulnerable. “While we all want safety and security for our country, it can not be achieved by eroding the very fundamentals of justice and the essence of our constitution” added Siddiqi.
The inclusion of poor in our festivity must be done without which we cannot complete our service to Allah SWT. How many societies the poor is left out of the pie and the rich eats the entire pie. A few weeks ago, we celebrated Eid-ul Fitr. And on that Eid, we enjoy its virtues by giving the Zakaat-ul Fitr to the poor before we begin the Eid prayer. This Eid we have to complete its celebration by giving 1/3 of the meat to the poor and needy. As Allah SWT says: Then eat thereof and feed therewith the poor who have a very hard time. (22:28) EID MUBAARAK!
