(NEW YORK, NY, 4/13/14) – The Islamic Circle of North America is deeply saddened by the tragic shootings, which occurred today in Overland Park, Kansas at the Jewish Community Center.
“We send our condolences to those affected by today’s horrific incident,” said Naeem Baig, president of ICNA. “Such acts of violence are deplorable.”
Three individuals were killed at two separate Jewish community centers. Authorities have a man in custody but have yet to determine the motive for the crime.
Islam considers all life sacred. The Quran states, “whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.” [Quran 5:32]
“We stand in solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters in Kansas City,” said Mansoor Syed, Director of Outreach, ICNA Kansas City.
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11, 2001. It serves as both a reminder of one of the most traumatizing occurrences to unfold on American soil and as a testimony to the resilience of every community living here in America.
