(NEW YORK, NY, May 6, 2014) – The Islamic Circle of North America condemns the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria by the terror militant group Boko Haram, whose leader, Abubakar Shekau, had threatened to sell them into slavery.
“It is absolutely despicable and horrific,” said Naeem Baig, president of ICNA. “We urge authorities to use all of their resources to reunite the girls with their families and combat the threat posed by Boko Haram.”
The girls were kidnapped last month by the militants, who have a decade long record of violence targeting both Christians and Muslims. They have likely been moved out of Nigeria and into neighboring countries, increasing fears over the children’s fate.
“Human trafficking is obscene and horrific,” said Baig. “These acts of violence committed by Boko Haram are against all humanity.”
The inclusion of poor in our festivity must be done without which we cannot complete our service to Allah SWT. How many societies the poor is left out of the pie and the rich eats the entire pie. A few weeks ago, we celebrated Eid-ul Fitr. And on that Eid, we enjoy its virtues by giving the Zakaat-ul Fitr to the poor before we begin the Eid prayer. This Eid we have to complete its celebration by giving 1/3 of the meat to the poor and needy. As Allah SWT says: Then eat thereof and feed therewith the poor who have a very hard time. (22:28) EID MUBAARAK!
