—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
NEW YORK, NY (April 21, 2019) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) condemns in the strongest terms the barbaric attack on churches and other venues in Sri Lanka during Easter yesterday.
The bomb attacks killed at least 207 people and injured over 450. Such mass killing of innocent lives furthers no political or ideological objective except the devastation of families going about their lives, and the destruction of religious and social harmony in the society.
The families of the victims and the people of Sri Lanka are in our thoughts and prayers. ICNA calls upon the Sri Lankan authorities to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime swiftly and offer full protection to its religious minorities and their places of worship. We also call upon the people of Sri Lanka to remain united and not let these evil acts sow the seeds of communal discord.
