—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
JAMAICA, New York (August 3, 2010) – In a press release issued today, the Islamic Circle of North America called upon the community to donate to flood victims in Pakistan.
Thousands are feared dead and millions affected or displaced following torrential rain and flooding in Pakistan last week, in what is considered the country’s worst downpour in the last 80 years. Monsoon rains washed away streets, crops and even entire villages in the northwest region of the country on Thursday.
Roads and bridges have been destroyed, significantly limiting access to affected areas. Reports indicate that cholera and diarrhea are spreading across the region, and thousands are in need of medical attention.
With the month of Ramadan quickly approaching, hundreds of thousands will find themselves without food, shelter or even clean water. Helping Hand for Relief and Development is responding with immediate emergency relief. Please visit helpinghandonline.org and donate generously to Pakistan Flood Relief 2010.
