NEW YORK, NY (January 28, 2017) – The Islamic Circle of North America today welcomed the decision by Jude Ann Donnelly from the Eastern District of New York partially halting President Trump’s executive order banning Muslims from entering the United States.

ICNA also welcomes statement of support and offer of help from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and others in response to the latest Executive Order on visitors to US.
ICNA supports the peaceful protests in support of constitutional rights currently underway around the nation’s airports.
ICNA’s Social Service department, ICNA Relief USA, is providing relief to the detained people and their families at JFK airport in New York. ICNA Relief is also exploring other possible avenues to help those impacted by this Executive Order.

STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR ANDREW M. CUOMO
“I never thought I’d see the day when refugees, who have fled war-torn countries in search of a better life, would be turned away at our doorstep. We are a nation of bridges, not walls, and a great many of us still believe in the words ‘give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses…’
“This is not who we are, and not who we should be.
“I have directed the Port Authority, the Department of State, and my Counsel’s Office to jointly explore all legal options to assist anyone detained at New York airports, and ensure that their rights are protected.
“America is a nation of laws and those laws provide rights that must be respected and followed regardless of political ideology.”
