—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—
JAMAICA, New York (January 2, 2012) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) issued a press release today condemning the firebomb attacks at a mosque and several homes in Jamaica, Queens last night.
Firebombs were thrown at Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center, as well as two nearby homes of a Hindu and Christian family and a local grocery store. Members of ICNA’s national and local leadership visited the Imam Al-Khoei Islamic Center to offer their support and services to the mosque.
“An attack on any house of worship is an attack on all of us,” said Tariqur Rahman, Secretary General, ICNA. “We must stand together to protect the sacred places of religious minority groups and protect our communities from such attacks.”
“Islamophobia has led to a surge of violent threats against the Muslim community. We urge local authorities to investigate this hate-crime and bring the perpetrators to justice. We also encourage our brothers and sisters in Jamaica to remain vigilant and contact authorities with any information regarding these attacks.”
