—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

Sutherland Springs, TX (Nov. 12, 2017) – President of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) Javaid Siddiqi, along with others, attended the Memorial Service for the victims of the recent tragic killings at First Baptist Church in the City of Sutherland Springs, Texas.

The ICNA delegation included Sabbir Hassan of ICNA Relief Houston and Saad Ansari of Helping Hand for Relief and Development, Houston. A donation by ICNA Relief was given to Pastor Frank Pomeroy on behalf of the Muslim community.
Pastor Pomeroy and his congregation welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the Muslim community.
In his talk, Pastor Frank said “the devil has hit the community to win the first round, but we remember the late boxer Mohammad Ali who used to loose some rounds, but then came back to knockout the opponent. This is the way we will defeat the devil.” US Senator John Cornyn also gave an encouraging message.
Attendees to the services traveled from all over the country, and were appreciative of ICNA’s delegation.
A veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan walked up to ICNA the delegates and said “I am absolutely delighted to see you here; there is a lot of need to have interfaith and inter-communal meetings.” He added “I met some of the best people in my life during my tenure.”
Javaid Siddiqi said “Majority of people are good everywhere. Today we meet on this sad occasion. But we will soon meet on happy occasions as well.” A reporter from Austin said “Insha’Allah” (Arabic for “If God Wills”).
