—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

WASHINGTON D.C. (June 26, 2018) – The Islamic Circle of North America today denounced the Supreme Court decision on upholding the Muslim Ban 3.0 and urged everyone to support ICNA CSJ’s campaign to recognize American Muslim roots.

The ban allows the Trump administration to deny visas to foreign nationals from eight affected countries. In the narrow 5-4 decision the court has now reversed the earlier ruling that had disallowed it.
“A reasonable observer would conclude that the Proclamation was driven primarily by anti-Muslim animus, rather than by the Government’s asserted national-security justifications. Even before being sworn into office, then-candidate Trump stated that ‘Islam hates us.'” Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor in her dissent.
This decision will enter into history as along with Supreme Court’s other key decisions upholding slavery, segregation in schools, and Japanese American internment.
However ICNA will continue to support all efforts to bring justice in our legal system. ICNA also believes that education and awareness remains the strongest solution to the rising bigotry in our society. Towards this end ICNA calls on everyone to support the campaign #RecognizingMuslimRoots by ICNA Council for Social Justice.
