-—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—-

(NEW YORK, NY, March 15, 2015) – The Islamic Circle of North America issued a press release yesterday expressing sorrow over the suicide bomb attacks on two Christian churches in Lahore, Pakistan which killed 15 people and left over 70 injured.

Naeem Baig, the president of ICNA, has issued the following statement:
“These bombings are appalling. ICNA extends its condolences to the families of the victims. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this difficult time. We also urge the Pakistani government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We remind those in authority in Pakistan of their duty with the following verse from the Quran:
‘And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might. [22:40]’.
The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ, peace be upon him, granted protection to all who lived under his governance, regardless of race or religion.
The mindless violence is detrimental to the nation’s struggle for an equal and inclusive society. ICNA calls on the government and people of Pakistan to protect the rights of minorities and their religious institutions in the country to live and worship in safety.
The Pakistani government must step up its efforts to provide security to its people and work to bring the perpetrators of violence to account.”
