—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

NEW YORK, NY November 29, 2017) – Today after President Donald Trump shared anti-Muslim videos on Twitter, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) called on all Americans to resist Trump’s attempts to turn Americans against each other.

ICNA also appealed to the Republican Party leadership to speak up against Trump’s clear pattern of deafening silence on sexual, religious and racial harassment of Americans.
Trump’s retweets were originally posted by a leader of a known British hate group. One of the video has been exposed as false propaganda and while another is a scene from political unrest in Egypt few years ago. The third video remains unverified.
British Prime Minister has called Trump’s tweets “hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions”. All three videos were originally posted by Jayda Fransen who was found guilty last year of religiously aggravated harassment of a Muslim woman and arrested this year for “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behavior”.
Demonizing minorities has become a key focus of President Trump. Embracing hate groups, inciting bigotry and fueling hatred has become a hallmark of his presidency.
Trump’s rhetoric against the Muslim community under the false pretense of fighting terrorism is dangerous and incendiary. Hate crimes motivated by anti-Muslim bias are already at an all-time high, and the president’s words and actions further inflame this violence. Mosques have been burned and bombed, children are bullied, homes are vandalized, and people are attacked.
