07 21 10

—FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—

JAMAICA, New York (July 21, 2010)- The Islamic Circle of North America is pleased to announce Muslim Family Day 2010, being held at Six Flags locations across the United States in celebration of Eid Al-Fitr.

Commemorated by Muslims around the globe, Eid Al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is determined by the lunar calendar and is expected to begin during the second week of August this year. Muslim Family Day 2010 will be held at the following locations:

  • Jackson, NJ (September 10)
  • Dallas, TX (September 12)
  • Chicago, IL (September 12)
  • Washington, DC (September 12)
  • Springfield, MA (September 18)
  • Los Angeles, CA (September 18)
  • San Francisco, CA (September 18)
  • Atlanta, GA (October 2)

Over the years, Muslim Family Day has become a staple in the American Muslim community. The event has attracted over 100,000 in the past two years alone. Muslim Family Day was first held in 2000 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. The tragic events of September 11th, which resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives, also affected this event directly. Tariq Amanullah, the chief organizer of Muslim Family Day, worked on the 96th floor of World Trade Center, Tower 2, and was a victim of the attacks. Through its various endeavors, ICNA honors his memory of building bridges between communities. (Click here for more on Tariq)

“We hope the religious season will be spiritually enhancing for Muslims around the world and across the US. We also extend congratulations to our Jewish friends, who will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah the same weekend of Eid Al-Fitr,” said Naeem Baig, Vice President for Public Affairs.

The Islamic Circle of North America is a leading American Muslim organization dedicated to the betterment of society through the application of Islamic values. Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services and relief efforts.

    Salaam,

We should not be surprised that Shaitan and his helpers are acting Al-Islam from every angle.

Just continue to show the truth of Al-Islam, combat the lies and false representation (i.e terrorism) and Allah will do the rest.

Man Plan and Allah Plan and Allah is the best of Planners.

  • safa

Jewish Rosh Hashanah same week so is that mean they have not to celebrating thier holiday ???

  • http://etext.virginia.edu/jefferson/quotations/jeff1650.htm Ron

Thomas Jefferson even recognized Islam centuries before 9/11 happened.

(Please Note: Mahometan = Muslims –> In the context of this language below back in 1821)

Please don’t disrespect our founding fathers by acting in this ignorant manner.

    Please Don’t forget about:
    * Timothy Mcveigh (a United States Army Veteran – Oklahoma City building bombing).

    * Andrew Joseph (crashed his plane into the IRS building – http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/19/us/19crash.html)

    * KKK for lynching and destroying so many innocent lives just because of the skin color of African Americans.

** There are countless examples of domestic terrorism outside of Islam and Muslims. IF WE AS ALL-AMERICANS CAN’T COME TOGETHER IN THIS VULNERABLE TIME IN OUR HISTORY, WE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR OWN DEMISE when other countries around the world are progressing past us in several areas.

    ========================================

“[When] the [Virginia] bill for establishing religious freedom… was finally passed,… a singular proposition proved that its protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word “Jesus Christ,” so that it should read “a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion.” The insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend within the mantle of its protection the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo and infidel of every denomination.” –Thomas Jefferson: Autobiography, 1821. The T-bug party has nothing to do with Christianity and Americanism. They are the scion of the Nazis and want to turn America into Hitler’s Germany.

Jazakallahu Khair Sr Maliaka for your excellent explanation. And to the haters out there; shame on you. Do you not forget your ancestry as an American that unless we are Native American we are ALL children of immigrants to this wonderful country. Yes, my faith is Islam, but my ancestors are from scandinavia and the UK. So grow up, be mature and most important show new comers to America that we are a kind nation.

  • deshi

Those who self style to be holier than all are the ones who have something to ide…to do that they cry others, today eg Muslims are all terrorists…to cover up their misdeeds. There is far more and pretty organized terrorism by non-Muslims…just look around…nearly a million people killed in the Rwanda Burundi massacres…and they were all Christians killing Christians!!

  • Chaplain Nur Moebius

Assalaamu Alaikum and Peace be upon all those who follow Righteous guidance…

I am saddened to read some of these posts, may Allah guide us all and have mercy on us all.

I wonder where Americans who were born and raised in America, tried Christianity and Catholicism and then accepted Islam as their way of life, suppose to go. May Allah turn the hearts of those who express such hate and blame all for one or a few peoples actions.

Why is it that Muslims cannot have a day to be happy and celebrate without someone having something negative to say??? and as for Muslims condemning Terrorism, WE DO. ISLAM is a peaceful way of life, if it wasn’t you wouldn’t be here rite now with all the 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, who are your neighbors MUSLIMS…get a grip

    Dear Hillbillies

To all the haters out there defecating from their mouths saying they will boycott Six Flags, my answer to you is this: PLEASE DO SO. At least I won’t have to wait behind anymore white trash, hill billies who think this land is “destined” for them and who dangle this little piece of paper called the CONSTITUTION in front of everyone’s face while being totally oblivious to one word written in it. While your at it, please boycott Disney as well, I’ve seen a lot of those scary Muslims there too.

Thank you hillbillies, I knew I could depend on you guys.

    Sincerely,

    The Scary Muslim (Boooooooooo)

    Salaam Alaikum,

I am excited every year for this event. My comment though is for the creators of this website. Right now when we go to share it on our networking websites such as FB the comment is the first thing that shows up, not part of the wonderful article. This is unfortunate because even some of the Muslim comments are not in accordance with how Muslims should be behaving. I can not re-post this link because of this. Please consider deleting comments, or at least not making it the main attraction for when we re-post.

Jazak Allah Khair and I pray for baraka in this event.

Just so you know, right now muslims are the biggest victims of terrorism. Look at Pakistan, where almost every single day, so many people are killed by these lunatics who call themselves “jihadis” . And who are they doing jihad against?? their ownn muslim brothers and sisters…So do you really think that these faceless enemies have any religion or race or should they even be called human beings?? i think not!!!

  • Samar Dogar

It saddens me that Fox News opens it media door to every opportunity which paints a negative image on muslims. Fair & balanced? Would you entertain hosting a guest that wants to critisize jews for celebrating their holiday? Fox News take responsibility for the world you are trying to create. Hatred is ugly.

  • ACE

    We are the Muslims.
    Resistance is futile.
    You will all be assimilated.

  • jana zain

wow!! im american and muslim, why would i spit in my own face?

  • SZQ

It is very unfortunate that the likes of Joe Kaufman have been so successful in spreading hate and fear. Sadly, I guess I underestimated my fellow Americans. I would challenge them to actually go out and learn something about Islam and Muslim, outside from what they here on the news or these crazy websites. Be informed before you pass judgement. There is a Catholic Family Day at Six Flags and any other group who can organize can hold, why not Muslims? I am an American born citizen and a Muslim who happens to know what our rights are.

  • abu nussrah

So ICNA is funded by the Homeland Security?

  • Nusseyba

I think the sister handled that very well MashaAllah…

  • Mike

What cracks me up, is that NO ONE is understanding why the particular date, which is the ‘Eid Al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan.

There is no agenda to run towards or away from 9/11, despite what the naysayers spew.

Last year, as Ramadan ended towards the end of September, the ‘Eid and Great Adventure events were at that time.

Personally, while I enjoy the day out, if Six Flags decided to stop hosting, I wouldn’t lose any sleep, for I could go to an amusement park any other time. And believe me, no question, one of the factors in the Six Flags decision-making is $$$. They KNOW they’re going to get a good chunk of money on that day. If and when attendance greatly wanes, no more Muslim Fun Day.

  • SUNNI4LYF

it doesnt matter what a muslim does or does not do there will always b some miscreant there to complain about us . Glory BE TO THE LORD OF THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH! all matters go back to HIM for judgement and HE will decide between us who were those who were just and who were those who were unjust .

  • THINKINGMAN

The think the problem is two-fold. Obviously, those who oppose this event, in deference to their sentiments around 911, that Muslims are sympathetic to as well, are being a bit emotional and unreasonable, in their presumption, that somehow an ‘Eid celebration is making light or fun of the events of 9/11/01. Nothing could be further from the truth. It so happens, the ‘Eid happened to fall within this time period, and much planning goes into these events, and it might not be so easy to accommodate and wishes of everyone, including those who are reacting in a very emotional way.

On our side, we make the mistake of almost apologizing for being Muslim and practicing this pillar of Islam in the month of Ramadan. For those who are citizens of the United States and obey its laws and respect its sovereignty, there’s nothing to prove, in the way of patriotism. Like it or not, the most profound patriotism is to God. I’m not certainly going to be put before an ideological, kangaroo-tribunal to prove anything. You can guarantee I’m no threat to the security and safety of anyone, here or abroad.

The 6 Flags ‘Eid events have been going on for a few years. Personally, it’s a refreshing time, after a month of fasting, to be afforded such amenities. However, with this history of family-oriented, halal, spiritually-inclined fun, if the decision was made to decline this privilege, we’ll be all right, for the real celebration is the ‘Eid itself, wherever it’s celebrated. I won’t lose any sleep over that. We’ll be alright. If it rains, fine. I accept these things as Decrees from Allah.

What the naysayers are also missing, is that – before I do, does anyone here think we’re using the parks for FREE? That would be nice, but it’s going to cost me some money for tickets, transportation, tolls and food. In a sense, I’d like to keep some of that money! This is a business relationship between ICNA/Muslims and 6-Flags. If this annual event hadn’t been successful in the past, with money and time wasted on both ends, we wouldn’t even need to have this discussion.

Peace to All, the supporters and naysayers, the latter of whom I truly hope can understand the error in their thinking.

    That’s all.

  • IMAPROUDMUSLIM :)

OKAYY SOO I GO TO PUBLIC SCHOOL N OBVS. I HEAR THIS NON SENCE ALLL DA TIME;; SERIOUSLY GET UR FACTS STRAIGHT WERE CELEBRATING OUR HOLIDAY N IT HAPPENS TO BE AT THAT TIMING.. I really think what ICNA is doing is great. Muslims deserve a day just for fun. It’s not fair. Jewish people have the day off when it’s Rosh Hashanah. Christian people get a whole week off for Christmas. Why can’t we get one day off for Eid? When we celebrate during the summer, there is still is contervarsy? This is BS.

  • America not Muslimica

Okay, I am a true american and I am completely distraught over the fact that this ‘muslum’ day is being celebrated the day after September 11th. To me that is a big punch in the face to Americans all over the U.S. (muslims not included for many reasons). I don’t think that President Obama has a good head on his shoulders, because what president in past history would allow this to happen if they were here in present time? I know damn well that president Bush would not have allowed it. You muslims, arabs, or what ever you want to call yourselves have all your gas stations 7/11’s and other such stores, and now you want a damn day to yourselves? This is america, not muslimica. If you want your own day why don’t you travel back to where your family originated from. In no way shape or form am I racist, nor will I ever be. I am sure that I am not the only American that feels this way. I can almost garuntee that there are many veterans that are reading about this muslim day and saying to themselves that americans fought for this country and muslims fought against it. This is absolutly rediculous. My damn hands are shaking right now because of this. How can one, who calls him self Americas President, punch every american in the face? Obama needs to be impeached immediately and this muslim day needs to be stopped!

  • GET OUT!

IMAPROUDMUSLIM first off, if your in school then why is your english so bad? if your muslim why are you talking like your from the ghetto? we cant change christmas because it has been that way for YEARS. your stupid muslim day has just been put into affect. take your eid and go some where else with it. no one gives a flying duck about the lunar calender, we use a normal one here in AMERICA.

Ronnie Zahir, no one wants this day to happen because of the events on 9/11. If you were back living in your country and americans came in and caused a catastrophic situation and then we wanted a day to ourselves in your country how would you feel?

I’m an American of Christian heritage, and sort of half republican even. I was there today at sixflags in Dallas, and I had no idea about ICNA or ‘Muslim Family Day’. I have to admit that I was shocked at first; so thru dark sun glasses, I watched/stared the Muslims down quite a bit. I was pleased to see plenty of moderate Muslims there. I couldn’t help but notice that the men with the long beards have their wives looking thru slits in their head gear with clothing draging the ground, and these men never smiled. The moderate men and women were laughing and having a good time. I seen something from some moderate Muslim girls (won’t tell for fear of retaliation from ‘long beards’) but the display of moderation I witnessed, restored my hope for muslims in America. You guys just have to know, the Sharia Law enforcement won’t ever be legally tolerated here. I’m not trying to start an argument; I’m really just admonishing you to resist such a theocratic mindset in our democracy. (What American friends of mine would site is Islam’s track record in other countries, but we’ll see). If you guys ‘live and let live’, and let Allah do all the punishing/rewarding according to His own un-aided Judgment, we won’t have any problems. And in fairness, this country long ago, at it’s founding, rejected old world Catholicism which had men punishing people for God.
