ICNA wishes Muslims in America and everywhere a blessed Eid Al-Adha! We encourage our members and the general Muslim community to celebrate the Eid holidays with your local masajid, communities and Islamic centers.

In a recent survey conducted by ICNA (click here for the survey), it was found that there are three main viewpoints/methods (all valid under the shariah) of calculating the date of Eid Al-Fitr. However, during this Eid Al-Adha there was a convergence of all three viewpoints, as all American Muslims are observing it on the same day of November 6, 2011.
As 1.8 million Muslims descend upon Makkah in the next few days, we are reminded of the universal spirit of brotherhood that is embodied by the pilgrimage. We hope that American Muslims will observe the holiday with full piety and dignity—making dawah to our neighbors, co-workers and friends as we embrace this joyous season.
We encourage you to take advantage of these first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, of which the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said: “There are no days more loved to Allah for you to worship Him therein than the ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Fasting any day during it is equivalent to fasting one year and to offer Salatul Tahajjud [late-night prayer] during one of its nights is like performing the late night prayer on the Night of Power.” (Reported by Tirmidhi)
Fasting on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, the day of Arafah, is especially important. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said, “Fasting the day of Arafah expiates the sins of two years: a past one and a coming one.” (Reported by Muslim.)
Eid Al-Adha commemorates the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim, peace be upon him, and Muslims around the world sacrifice an animal to mark this holiday. We encourage you to support the Udhiya (sacrifice) efforts of ICNA Relief and Helping Hand by visiting icnarelief.org and hhrd.org.
May Allah Most High accept our efforts in His way and allow us to reap the benefits of Dhul Hijjah. May He accept the Hajj of those brothers and sisters fortunate enough to embark on this unforgettable journey and allow us all to visit His beloved house in the years to come. Ameen.
Please accept our warmest congratulations on this blessed occasion and keep us in your prayers! Eid Al-Adha Kareem!

  1. Know that I am praying for you and the whole Muslim family around the world. I have recently written a book called KING of GLORY beautifully illustrated by a talented artist in Argentina. It shows the deeper meaning of Eid al-Adha. If you would like a complementary copy just let me know.
    God bless you,
