Muslim organization giving away backpacks for school

Starting this Friday, the Islamic Circle North America (ICNA) will distribute 5,000 backpacks to local kids in need as the tristate area approaches the new school year. It’s part of the organization’s second annual Back to School Giveaway program, which will distribute 30,000 backpacks to children of all faiths in low-income areas around the country. The event is organized by ICNA’s domestic relief department, ICNA Relief.

Charity Reports Spike in Homeless Muslim Women

June 26, 2012, New York – Two leading New York-based Urdu newspapers have reported an increase in homelessness amongst Muslim women, many of them fleeing domestic abuse. The Pakistan Post and the Urdu Times both reported that the relief arm of Islamic Circle of North America, known as ICNA Relief, one of the America’s largest Muslim charity and relief organizations, is finding it hard to accommodate the number of Muslim women seeking shelter at its temporary housing shelter in New York.

On May 17, 2012, the Joint Religious Leadership Coordination for the G8 Summit (JRLCS) gathered representative organizations and delegations from G8 and G20 member communities for a closed meeting at the Berkley Center.
