August 31, 2012 – Two Sheepshead Bay residents still fighting the hopeless battle to stop the construction of a Voorhies Avenue mosque protested a school supply giveaway in front of the still-under-construction house of worship on Saturday — but were easily drowned out by the dozens of parents and children looking for free backpacks, notebooks, and pencils.

Hurricane Isaac is moving slowly northwest along the coast of southeast Louisiana, and dangerous storm surge conditions continue all along the Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center said in its 9 P.M. ET update. The Category 1 hurricane still had maximum sustained winds of 80 mph; hurricane-force winds extended 60 miles out from the center of the storm.

June 26, 2012, New York – Two leading New York-based Urdu newspapers have reported an increase in homelessness amongst Muslim women, many of them fleeing domestic abuse. The Pakistan Post and the Urdu Times both reported that the relief arm of Islamic Circle of North America, known as ICNA Relief, one of the America’s largest Muslim charity and relief organizations, is finding it hard to accommodate the number of Muslim women seeking shelter at its temporary housing shelter in New York.

On May 17, 2012, the Joint Religious Leadership Coordination for the G8 Summit (JRLCS) gathered representative organizations and delegations from G8 and G20 member communities for a closed meeting at the Berkley Center.
