NY Conference on Religious Freedom & Shariah

Men and women, young and old began trickling into the York College Performing Arts Center in Jamaica, New York. The diverse crowd was there to attend a conference on Defending Religious Freedom: Understanding Shariah held on Saturday, December 4, 2011. Once the program kicked off, there were nearly a thousand people in attendance.

JAMAICA, New York (October 25, 2011) – Almost an equal percentage of American mosques decided the day of Eid ul Fitr either on the basis of local moon-sighting (40%) or according to the Fiqh Council of North America’s prepared Islamic calendar (39%).

Muslim Relief Group Helps Irene Victims

October 12, 2011, NJ – Many communities in New Jersey are still recovering from the damages caused by Hurricane Irene that struck states from North Carolina to Vermont on August 20. Wayne, a town in northeast New Jersey, is one such place where Anna Walker had been waiting for weeks for federal help to clean up her basement, which was flooded by water.

New Jersey (September 27, 2011) – Three weeks ago Hurricane Irene ripped across the eastern United States, battering states from North Carolina to Vermont and hitting parts of New York City and the tri-state area. As we watched these events unfold, ICNA Relief stepped in to offer assistance. Disaster relief services ranged from offering shelter to those whose homes has been damaged by the storm, to distributing food and water to communities.

CA Councilman under Fire for Naming Dog after Prophet
September 24, 2011 – A California councilman named Derek Reeve is under fire for he avowed in a council meeting on Sept. 6 that he named one of his two dogs after Muhammad– the Muslim prophet. However, Muslims regard dog as unclean. The other dog is named “America”.
